This has helped the company reduce the reliance of freshly mined materials, such as iron, prolonging the mining period. The eleventh-largest company in the world by revenue, has also implemented the use of renewable energy in its various plants, for instance, the photovoltaic generation system installed at the Tsutsumi plant produces 2000 kW reducing annual crude oil consumption of about 500 kiloliters (Hirose, 2011).
Toyota has also undertaken afforestation programs to help conserve the depleted forests with initiatives in Japan, Australia and Brazil. The common places where it has carried out tree planting are areas where there is the production plants example around the Tsutsumi plant (Hirose, 2011).

Recently, in October 2012, Toyota sponsored the EMA (Environment Media Awards) awards, which aim at communicating environmental messages with emphasis on protection and conservation of the environment.
