Pros and Cons of College Relationships

Some educational institutions set their students up for success not only in their professional life, but also in their personal one. The college I have graduated from, Ursinus, is one of such schools – it has recently made The Guinness Book of World Records for recording the number of marriages among college and university students.

I studied in the most marriage-happy college and dated a guy during my studies, but I have not become a part of these amazing statistics. However, I do not regret that I had relationships in college. The reason is that I realize that there are both pros and cons of all the relationships, even those ones that did not work out eventually. To prove my opinion, I have made a list of advantages and disadvantages of college relationships.

Pros of College Relationships

You always have a person to look out for you. There are times when you feel sad or lonely, and nothing is better in such cases than a person who will be there for you. If you get sick, you will also have someone to take care of you.

Even when you are just tired and under pressure to complete the assignments on time, it is great to have somebody there with you, especially if he or she is going to order a late night pizza.

You can experience the best time of your life together. For example, my boyfriend and I were both on the track-and-field athletics team and we experienced an excitement of being champions together.

Cons of College Relationships

You might be tied down because of your relationships. Imagine, you finally get the freedom to do everything you like in college, but relationships can actually limit this. For instance, I am acquainted with some people who are restricted from meeting friends because of their jealous partners.

There is a probability that you will not live near each other. You realize that people attend college from all over. And whilst it is convenient to have relationships with a person from your college during the time you are there, it can be difficult to date during a summer vacation or a winter break.

Chances are that you will not be able to concentrate on the studies. A drama in college might interrupt your studies, as well as a drama in adulthood sometimes influences your work.

Does not matter what other people might say, it is obvious that there are not only cons of having romantic relationships in college, but also pros. That is why I strongly recommend trying out this great experience so that you could ensure there are much more benefits of college relationships that are described in this article. You will be amazed by the great experience you will get from it, and how little you regret it eventually.
